Hamburg-West Ham Betting Preview: Back the Hammers to get at least a draw

Phil Kitromilides believes Sam Allardyce's side will improve on their last performance in Germany and should be backed to earn a share of the spoils
After Saturday's 4-1 defeat at the hands of Mainz 05, West Ham continue their pre-season tour of Germany with a match against Hamburg. Follwowing that result at the weekend Hammers' assistant boss Neil McDonald said: "I think it shows us we've still got a long way to go to and a lot of fitness to catch up on."

Indeed, having won all their pre-season games before heading to Germany, West Ham will be hoping to step up against Hamburg and are priced at 5/2 (3.50) for the win.

The Bundesliga outfit, meanwhile, are the clear favourites offered at 17/20 (1.85) to see off their English opposition.Yet Hamburg are coming off the back of a weekend thrashing themselves, although their 4-0 defeat against European champions Bayern Munich may be somewhat more excusable.

With West Ham knowing they have to up their tempo and actively looking for a positive result, backing the Hammers to win or draw at 5/6 (1.83) looks like an attractive option.

Joe Cole described the result against Mainz as "a little wake-up call" and punters should be confident that the east Londoners will be able to improve and avoid defeat against the side which finished seventh in the
